Jammu city experienced a sudden blackout on Friday evening, accompanied by the sounds of multiple explosions and blaring sirens across the region. The incident unfolded amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following India’s targeted strike on nine terrorist camps earlier this week under Operation Sindoor.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah posted on X that “intermittent blasts, likely from heavy artillery,” could be heard from his location. He also shared an image of the city in darkness, captioned, “Blackout in Jammu now. Sirens can be heard across the city.” His updates confirmed that the citywide power outage and explosion sounds were ongoing.
Blasts were also reported in the Samba area, where India’s air defence systems reportedly intercepted suspected Pakistani drones. The sequence of explosions is believed to be linked to continued shelling from across the border, which followed India’s cross-border military action earlier in the week. Authorities have not yet confirmed details regarding casualties or damage.
In another post, Omar Abdullah urged residents to stay off the streets and remain indoors for the next few hours. “Ignore rumours, don’t spread unsubstantiated or unverified stories & we will get through this together,” he wrote, advising caution and cooperation during the unfolding situation.
